No idea what day it is

This is more like it. Welcome to ‘Day Two’, except that as the title suggests, it isn’t. It’s more like day twenty-five or six,  I’ve actually started to lose track of the days.

Depending on when you are reading this, we are currently moving into what looks like the beginnings of the second wave of Covid ‘lock down’s’. That would seem to be the case over here in the UK, anyway.

I might write about all of this at some point but not right now, I get the feeling that most people are sick to the back teeth (proper old-fashioned phrase, love it) of everything to do with it. Cliche warning, it is what it is.

I try not to spend any time stressing about things I have absolutely no control over. In my eyes, doing that, is a complete waste of resources, mainly time and most certainly mine.

So, let us move on. It’s been a mad few days and although I don’t seem to have much to show for it, I have been busy. In fact, I am extremely busy all the time. I am, it’s the truth.

I did start to write out a daily routine list, more for myself really, I just wanted to see where my time was being spent. Here it

is, to the right. As you can see, my days are pretty full, it’s no wonder I struggle to get things done.Notepad

The main problem is that there are so many things to be getting on with, sometimes I just don’t know where to start and I end up doing bits and pieces rather than focusing on just one thing.

Do you know the one thing a writer fears the most ? Not knowing what to write about. Actually, I’m talking about me and wouldn’t presume to know what every other writer out there fears, it may be different for them, it might be that no one likes their work, who knows ?

Maybe I should have said, “Do you know what my one fear is when it comes to writing?”

Any ideas ? No ? Shall I tell you ? It’s not knowing what you are going to write about. This is amplified when you are writing regularly, like every day.

I was thinking about it this morning. There are a dozen or more professions that are the same. How many times have you seen a ‘performer’ being interviewed and saying how they get nervous before going on stage, or a presenter before a live broadcast ? (Going back to what I just said about the audience not liking their work has to be up there for performers.)

Near enough all of them suffer from some kind of anxiety, a fear of not being able to do what they have done their whole lives. Yet, when push comes to shove, they get whatever they have to do done.

It’s the same for me and writing. You’d think that after writing close to six hundred posts/articles in the last eighteen months, I would be all over this writing malarkey, sadly that’s not true.

Every single day I ask myself the same question, “What am I going to say ?” I’ve even written articles about writing and how to come up with ideas of what to write. I am well aware of the irony.

It drives me to distraction some days and today has been no different. I mean, I could turn this into a diary kind of blog but to be honest, my life isn’t exactly something to write about, it’s not like I’m a private detective or a bounty hunter. My days can be very mundane and I wouldn’t want to put you through that.

Just so that you know I’m telling you the truth, how about this. This morning I was up just after 5.34am and after the normal morning perfunctories, accompanied by my wife, we walked the dogs.

We have three mutts, one Husky, one Husky/Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross and one Bucovina cross. As you can imagine, they can be a handful. The full-blown Husky is not ‘A-typical’, he’s a very chilled version, not your usual ‘wired’ Husky.

The cross-breed is, how can I put this without upsetting anyone, psychotic, at least when it comes to other dogs. She barely tolerates the other two and leaves no room for debate when it comes to who rules the roost, not that they’re chickens you understand.

That’s her in the middle. She is your proper ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ because when it comes to human attention, she is the most placid and loving animal out there but put an unknown dog near her and all bets are off.

The Husky is on the left and he’s doing what he usually does, sleep. ‘Bella’ the Bucovina cross (we think it’s with a Mioritic) is still classed as a puppy, even though she is already bigger than Neo (the Husky), who is an adult. She is daft, no other way of describing her. Maybe it’s because she is still young, the exuberance of youth, though I have an inkling that this trait will stay with her for many years to come.

Upon our return, my wife would normally go back to bed for an hour or two, she’s not an early riser by nature. Some of us are ‘morning people’ some of us aren’t. Personally, I love the mornings, the earlier I can get up the better.

I generally spend the next hour tidying up, this morning I was dusting and attending to a couple of those jobs that never seem to get done. They fall under the category of “I must remember to…..”

I put the recycling wheelie bins out, as today is collection day. After that, I ordered a couple of ‘flash drives’ that I have been meaning to buy for a few weeks. I also relocated a ‘tow-rope’ that has been sat by the front door for well over a week now, into to my eldest son’s car.

Bike lockOnce I had done all of that, it was time to work through emails and notifications and that probably took the best part of an hour and a half. In between that, I was commandeered to find a bike-lock key for my youngest son. All of that brings us to the here and now.

Like I said earlier, all pretty mundane stuff. I don’t mind throwing in the occasional anecdote to do with daily events, as long as it can be deemed interesting, fun or quirky but I’m not going to give you a blow-by-blow account of all my daily dalliances, I’d like to entertain you, not bore you to tears.

I will, however, endeavour to find more interesting subject matter, though that might have an effect on the regularity of my posts.

I have one more ‘scheduled’ task on my unwritten ‘to do’ list. Mowing the back garden.Back garden Don’t let the picture below fool you, since it was taken, there have been numerous days of both sun and rain, so the lawn isn’t quite so close-cropped.

That said, I think that will just about do for today, I might even get round to publishing this one. I say that because I haven’t even published the first one yet, something is holding me back and I haven’t worked out what that is.

It could be down to the fact that this site is brand new and I haven’t got round to setting it up properly yet.

As I write this, there’s no ‘About Me’ page or ‘Privacy Policy’, maybe by the time you get to read it, there will be, we’ll see.

May your day be all that you wish for and we’ll talk again soon.
