Passing On The Good Stuff
‘Passing On The Good Stuff’. Though I never watched it, I’m sure there’s a reference in that phrase, in ‘The League of Gentlemen’ television series. Something to do with an ‘under the counter’ products, not sure what it was though, I never really watched many episodes.
So, after my last post “Happy New Year Or Is It Too Late To Say That?”, which took me nearly a week to write, I have jumped right back in to furnish you with this one.
What am I passing on? The ‘good stuff’ obviously but what is that? Well, I’m writing this while listening to ‘Churupaca’ who I came across after reading a newsletter that I have only recently subscribed to. They are trés cool.
Back to the newsletter. The ‘5-Bullet Friday’ is Tim Ferriss’s weekly offering that is also connected to his blog. If you’ve not heard of Tim Ferriss, worry not, I have only just recently delved into him myself.
You may have heard of ‘The Four-Hour Work Week’ which is a book that Tim Ferriss wrote and was, still is, a global bestseller. A number of those who I follow have said that they took inspiration from that book when they were first getting started on their journey.
I actually bought ‘Tools of Titans’ which is one of his more recent offerings, though I haven’t started reading it yet, as you can see, it’s a whopper. Apparently, it contains a good amount of his previous books, so I figured ‘two birds one stone’. Now I just need to actually read it.
My introduction to Tim Ferriss was through an interview I watched, hosted by Tom Bilyeu. He’s worth watching by himself but he does have some amazing guests on his show. He has his own channel on YouTube and the playlist I have been watching is known as ‘Impact Theory’ but you can see the exact video that got my interest piqued HERE
See, passing on the good stuff. We should be like an intersection, rather than a cul-de-sac. I have come across some amazing things over time, due to them either being mentioned by a friend or by taking a chance on them after seeing them in odd or strange locations.
An example to enlighten you. If you’ve watched ‘The Equalizer 2’ with Denzel Washington, there’s a scene where one of the characters returns a book to ‘Robert McCall’ by leaving it outside the door to his apartment.
After a couple of rewinds, I managed to get a ‘still’ of the cover, it was Marcel Proust’s ‘In Search of Lost Time’. I then proceeded to buy it through Amazon as I had a balance left on a gift card (I always class that as ‘free’). It’s highly unlikely I would ever have found that particular book by chance.
There is something almost magical going on when that happens, I think that it’s the possibility of finding something that changes your life, you know, that one sentence that lifts the veil that you never realised was there.
I’m up for anything like that, especially finding unknown works, at least to me, within films, TV shows and also in interviews, that’s almost like a personal recommendation. There are numerous books (and websites) that have enriched my life, just because I could be bothered to follow through.
In my eyes, which can be slightly myopic at times, if you never take the time to pull these threads then life can become rather one-dimensional. It’s all too easy to continue on the ready-made path that we sometimes find ourselves on, rather than taking the occasional detour.
There’s nothing wrong with a bit of ‘off-roading’ as long, of course, you’re not in your ‘borrowed’ parents car. Yes, there’s nothing like taking a walk on the wild side, as Lou Reed once said (make sure you listen to this through headphones)
Look at this, it’s still Saturday morning and I’m about to publish this post, it must be down to prioritising as this was close to the top of my list this morning.
So, what do you think, have I passed on the ‘good stuff’ today? I hope so, I like being able to throw a little sunlight into people’s lives wherever possible and let’s be honest, we could all do with a little extra sunshine at the moment.
Right, while the mood still takes me I’m off to write a post on the WA platform, as I haven’t for nearly a week, which is rather unusual. It’s not that I haven’t wanted too, just that other things have taken precedence.
Up until a minute ago, I knew exactly what I was going to write about but now it seems to have left me, like those dreams we watch fade away in our mind’s eye. I am sure it will come back to me.
Enjoy your weekend, wherever you are.
Twack Romero.
